Lifetime Achievement Award to PSB

Pandit Sanjoy Bandopadhyay has been conferred with the Prof. S. C. Goswami Lifetime Achievement Award by Muktabodha: Centre for Indological Studies and Research and the International Congress of Indian Musicology & Performing Arts (ICIMPA-2025) on March 18, 2025.

Dr. Pragya Pyasi’s research presentation on “Exploration of Innovation and Traditional Knowledge Transfer Methods in Pandit Sanjoy Bandopadhyay’s Hindustani Raga Music Pedagogy and Connecting Sustainable Development Goals” at the International Conference at the Lovely Professional University received high appreciation. She presented her research design and results at the conference on 07 November 2023.

Dr. Pragya Pyasi was felicitated with the Best Publication Award for Naad Nartan 2022 National Seminar organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. The felicitation took place during the concluding ceremony of the National Seminar of the same institution at Jaipur on September 23, 2023.

Pragya is the first among the disciples of Prof. Bandopadhyay to get felicitated for excellence in academic writing!

Professor Bandopadhyay talked on “Connecting Poetry, Painting, Neuroscience, and AI with Raga Music: In search of a Deeper Understanding of Indian Raga Music and its Potentials to Serve” on 05 April 2023 at the Assam University [A Central University], Silchar. The Department of Performing Arts arranged this talk under their Distinguished Lecture Series titled Performing Arts through Different Lenses.

Pintu Saha got his Ph.D. under the supervision of Prof. Sanjoy

 

Rabindra Bharati University provisionally awarded Pintu Saha his Ph.D. degree on 27.12.2022. Dr. Pintu Saha did his research under the supervision of Prof. Sanjoy Bandopadhyay. This photograph was taken before the Sangeet Bnavan RBU after the final Viva-Voce.

Dr. Saha currently serves Assam University, Silchar, a Central University, as an Assistant Professor in Music at the Department of Performing Arts.

A core research group of the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati,  will interact with Professor Sanjoy on 26 December 2022 on the applications of Hindustani Raga Music as the source for generating neuro-cognitive and emotional responses of the human brain for clinical interventions.

Professor Bandopadhyay is back in Kolkata.

Pandit Sanjoy Bandopadhyay returns to his Kolkata home after four years of intense academic activities at the Central University of Sikkim. He was there from August 2017 to June 30, 2021. [Read the post 'Adieu Sikkim University' for some reactions from his students and colleagues .]

Prof. (Pt.) Sanjoy Bandopadhyay was invited by the Faculty of Performing Arts, Banaras Hindu University, for a talk on July 06, 2020. Prof. Bandopadhyay talked on 'Conceptualizing the Micro to reach the Macro: A small music-lantern from my Revered Gurus'.  More than 1200 music enthusiasts attended the talk online and later there were many more who listened to the recording online. Sukanya Chatterjee received the provisional certification of Ph.D. degree on completion of her research titled "The Effect of Hindustani Raga Instrumental Music as an Intervention for Children with Sub-Average Intellectual Functioning (IQ 35-55)" from the Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata. The research was conducted under the supervision of Professor Bandopadhyay.

Rajrupa Chaudhury, a disciple of Panditjee, played sarod recital at the Head Quarters of Commonwealth Nations, the Marlborough House, London. It was arranged as a part of the celebration of the Commonwealth Day on March 11 2019. The Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales Prince Charles, and The Duchess of Cornwall graced the occassion.
