A Living Digital Museum, Knowledge Repository, and Cultural Sustainability Initiative for Hindustani Rāga Music
Introduction
The Sanjoy Bandopadhyay Living Museum of Music is conceived as a dynamic digital institution dedicated to documenting, preserving, interpreting, and expanding the artistic, pedagogical, scholarly, and cultural legacy of Professor Sanjoy Bandopadhyay.
Rather than functioning as a static memorial archive, the museum is envisioned as a living and evolving ecosystem of knowledge connecting performances, pedagogy, scholarship, institutions, relationships, oral histories, and cultural practices.
The project seeks to demonstrate how the life and work of a distinguished musician-scholar can become the foundation for a broader system of cultural preservation, knowledge transmission, and sustainability.
Mission
To document, preserve, interpret, and continuously expand the artistic, pedagogical, scholarly, and cultural legacy of Sanjoy Bandopadhyay through interconnected digital collections of performances, recordings, photographs, manuscripts, institutions, relationships, ideas, and educational practices.
Through this evolving digital museum and knowledge repository, the project seeks to illuminate the wider ecosystem of Hindustani rāga music while demonstrating innovative approaches to preserving and transmitting complex cultural knowledge in the digital age.
Long-Term Vision
To establish an internationally recognized center dedicated to the study, preservation, transmission, and sustainable development of Hindustani rāga music, grounded in the life, work, and legacy of Sanjoy Bandopadhyay.
The center will serve musicians, scholars, educators, students, cultural practitioners, and the broader public through integrated archives, research initiatives, pedagogical innovation, digital heritage programs, and cultural sustainability projects.
